What would happen if Wal-Mart stopped selling smoking products?
What do you think would happen if Wal-Mart didn’t sell cigarettes and other smoking products? Do you think other stores might do the same? What are your thoughts?
I often thought of this myself. The tobacco industry has really taken some hits in the last couple years. Its a tough market with the high prices due to taxes and the hassle of abiding by the regulations of trying to keep the products out of the hands of minors. I’m not sure of the numbers in sales for Wal-Mart but I do know that the markup on cigarettes is usually less than 8%. With that said I don’t think any retailer is really making a killing by selling tobacco products.
I don’t know Wal-Mart’s market share on retailing tobacco, but with all the outlets out there I don’t think it’s strong enough to say they have any control. I would say the smaller stores like local gas stations and even drug stores like Walgreens and CVS have a greater impact on the tobacco market. Then again if Wal-Mart took the first step, others may follow.
Instead of banning tobacco the government has just been making it harder to sell which could cause retailers to stop selling altogether
Quit smoking the natural way?
I have had it with my smoking, I’ve paired it down to as little as 5 smokes a day unless I am in a social setting. I used to enjoy it, however now it just makes me feel sick afterward and tired. I don’t have money to spend on expensive drugs and I think that using nicotine patches isn’t a good idea seeing that they have the addictive quality in them. I want to quit but to do it naturally. Any suggestions?
I’ll tell you how I quited. Might work for you.
I "fooled" myself into thinking I was smoking. It’s an oral fixation as much as a nictotine addiction. So I hollowed out a pen and whenever I felt to smoke I’ll pull on that for a bit. The really intense urge would pass and I’ll be ok for a while. I also subsituted food for smoking (probably not a good idea if your also concerned with weight). After a few weeks, the urges were very bearable. I’ve been smoke free for, gosh over 7 years now. Hope I helped.
Edit:
Adam O and I had similar techniques. Smoking is much more than nicotine. Carrying the straw (or pen) and drawing on it, mimicing smoking helps a good deal.
I have many life changing things I want to do. I need to quit smoking, loose 50 lbs, and quit taking Effexor?
I have several things I need to do and am not sure which order or the best way to do it. I need to do the following
Loose 50 lbs
Quit smoking
Quit taking Effexor.
I am not sure in which order I should do this. I KNOW quiting Effexor will be a long process. I have done this before and it took months. (Like 6)
For quiting smoking, I will be doing it cold turkey. I will not be using any of the quit smoking aids. (for financial reasons)
Does anyone have any advice for me as to the order I should work on this.
Thanks so much!!
Effexor dosage is 75 mg.
Thanks
go for losing weight first of all, maybe being a fitness fanatic will help you quit one of the other two, whatever you do, make sure you take medical advice first and do it safely
best of luck xxxx

What is the best "stop smoking" product to buy someone?
There are several stop-smoking products that are scientifically proved to help you quit smoking. They can’t do all the work, but using stop-smoking products can help you feel more comfortable and in control while you adjust to life without cigarettes. In fact, they double your odds of quitting for good.
Although you can buy some stop-smoking products without a prescription, it’s best to consult your doctor to decide which medications or combination of medications may be best for you. Follow the directions printed on the label of the stop-smoking products your doctor has recommended. Note any warnings or precautions and discuss possible drug interactions with your doctor or pharmacist.

Tips to quit smoking without use of "quit smoking aids", (patches, gum, etc)?
Hi there,
I have been trying to quit for a while but have had some success with a ‘cut down and quit’ approach. Every time I feel like having a cigarette I get up and do something else as soon as the craving starts. I will have a glass of water, put a load of washing on, wash my face or ANYTHING in general to keep my hands busy. Doing it this way I am able to abstain from having one for up to three hours at a time. It is really hard to go cold turkey as there are certain receptors in your brain that go crazy when you don’t deliver their precious nicotine. If you slowly cut out half your cigs a day over one week then the next week you do the same again and so on and so on. I myself am now down to about 6 – 8 a day and that is coming down from a pack of 50’s a day!!! Good luck and keep in touch to let me know how you go. Also remember to kee calm and even just chew normal gum to get the saliva going in your mouth. Deep breaths are the key and saying "I can do this, you are my enemy (to the cigs), I don’t need you controlling my life….." something to that effect.
Cheers!!!
Stop smoking products?
My husband and I are both smokers. We both want to quit, but we have to do it together or the temptation to smoke will be too much. I think that it would be easier to use a product but we can’t afford any. They are so expensive.
Is there any place or organization that will give them to us for free?
Ask your doctor. They usually have coupons given to them by the manufactures.
Chantix works. Expensive but it definitely works.
